Concept statement
The words which make up Obama's face in the picture are taken from the introduction of his acceptance speech. A torch bearer represents the beginning of something - such as Obama's new leadership, which reflects a more tolerant America. It also refers to the Statue of Liberty, an iconic American statue which embodies the values and ideologies of today's America, including acceptance of all races and peoples.
Where in the world would you go to and why?
Germany. I am currently studying German at my School at a Year 11 level. I really enjoy learning a new language and it would be invaluable to experience it and test my knowledge in a real life setting. I'm also fascinated by other cultures and believe that exchange would be a great way to become immersed in the German culture whilst sharing my experiences of the Australian culture.
Favourite stuff?
I'm into a lot of progressive music, such as The Mars Volta, Pain of Salvation, Circus Maximus, Vanden Plas, Opeth, Porcupine Tree, Tool, Anathema, Ayreon, Devin Townsend, Katatonia - the list goes on. Music is a lot of what defines me, but at the same time I love to draw, design, paint, and do almost anything creative. I usually play games in my free time.
What will you be doing in 10 years?
Designing amazing things, possibly overseas!
Why should you win this competition?
Because I desperately want to go overseas and experience some new things. Also, I love to design and I put a good amount of effort into this work.
