Concept statement
My goal with this design was to design something that reflects what people know well about France but to lay it on a more "personal" foundation. In this foundation I incorporated various things that are more uniquely French - such as the authentically French patterns (seen to the right of the Eiffel Tower, as well as wrapping around the base), the map of France, and the moon and butterflies (showing how the country is still rich and vibrant with life at night). I wanted to create something that people could look at and find a new thing within the design each time.
Where in the world would you go to and why?
France (without a doubt)! I love the culture and geography of it and how the one country can offer so much with each aspect identified as uniquely French. Most of all I love the French vision for fashion and design in general. It's awe-inspiring how France has had so much inspiration from its bordering countries yet it still offers a distinctive 'French style'.
Favourite stuff?
~ Item: kneadable eraser (hehe, shhh!) ~ Pastime: sketching and spending time with my cat (aka 'fat cat Alice' - hence, beckysfatcatalice) ~ Person:...how about people? (mum, dad, friends, etc) ~ Food: SUSHI!!! ~ Movie: hm... ~ Book: M or F (haha, classic) ~ Mag: ... ~ Band: Hinder! ~
Three people you'd take to a desert island?
Marine - Because she's my "Poisson Rouge" ; ) (inside joke) and has plenty of experience swimming - Lola - because she's a mischievous cat...although, cat's don't like to get their paws wet...so that one will be interesting, haha - ...and...Captain Cook! - to sail me home to Australia ;)
What will you be doing in 10 years?
Hopefully I will be completing a degree in design at a French university and be working my way towards my own design/fashion label (haha, fingers crossed!!!).
Why should you win this competition?
I really enjoyed this competition. When I first saw the new topic for Make Your Mark I was instantly taken aback as this was the topic I had been dreaming of! At first I thought maybe I shouldn't enter to give everyone else a fair shot at winning third, second, or first prize. But one day after school (when I probably should have been studying...shhh! :O hehehe) I was curious to see what I could come up with...I knew what type of design I wanted to create but I didn't really have a clear picture in my head, so I improvised...And this was the end result. The Eiffel tower hand drawn with ink (something, along with watercolour that I associate very closely with French style) was only a quick sketch as I never really intended to enter it...but I did, just out of passion, mostly. It is such an honour to be recognised for my work and I would like to thank everyone for seeing my passion for designing. One of my friends even ran up to me at school and said to me, "where can I buy that t-shirt you designed?!"...I had to tell her that first I had to place, she then continued to say, "okay - damn! I really want that shirt!" --- Thanks Tilly! And Anonymous on my Blog: Anonymous said... Congrats. I loved that one, i hope it wins so I can buy it :) I gave it a 5 December 15, 2009 7:12 PM http://bekkii-soissons.blogspot.com/2009/12/vive-la-france-top-10-encore.html#comments
