Concept statement

When I was at school in France, the one lesson I remember was the Civics class where we were learning about the national symbols of France. The national identity of the French is so important to them and I've tried to incorporate that notion, along with the things that represent their country, culture and homeland (hence the title, Voilà la Patrie), into a design that also expresses flair and exudes style - things the French are no doubt famous for.

Where in the world would you go to and why?

I'm off to Spain next year! I'm so excited, because I love languages and culture - I think understanding and communicating with others is especially important these days. To be honest, I sort of caught the bug and would honestly go anywhere, from Africa to the Americas to Europe to Antarctica to Asia and back again.

Favourite stuff?

I love cherries and pies (they go together really well, too), animals, reading, music, art and...a whole bunch of other things?

Three people you'd take to a desert island?

A mate, my sister and...maybe Jesus. Hey, he can walk on water!

What will you be doing in 10 years?

Maybe still studying (overseas would be great!) at uni after doing Physiotherapy - postgrad or something completely different altogether. Doing something I love, hopefully. Is it too sappy for me to say I'd like to be married?

Why should you win this competition?

A scholarship would be so helpful to me - I've been raising as much of my own money as possible to try and make this exchange an adventure-of-self and not one my parents have had to provide. Winning, however, would be more than just a monetary reward - it would be a nod to what I've managed to do and give me confidence in my capabilities outside the realm of academia (it's the HSC results talking, here!).
