Concept statement
I wanted to create something which would look both visually appealing as a t-shirt and present a unique interpretation of the theme. A mantra we often hear regarding global warming is the “cutting of harmful emissions”, and this became my inspiration. I used symbolically warm and contrasting colours to create a design in which humanity attempts to cut down the harm they’ve tied down to the Earth - and through every individual's small contribution comes the possibility for solving a global problem.
Where in the world would you go to and why?
There are lots of countries I’d absolutely love to go to: Japan, Canada, Germany, Italy, New Zealand, France – just to name a few.
Favourite stuff?
I love soft toys, video games, anime & manga, art, crafts, design, [cavity-inducing] sweet foodstuffs and Coldplay.
Three people you'd take to a desert island?
To be honest I'd rather not be on a desert island at all - assuming that we're stranded there. But if I had to - my best friend for good company, a fisherman for fishing and a celebrity because then at least we know someone out there is keeping tabs on us.
What will you be doing in 10 years?
Hopefully I'll be doing what I want to do - what exactly is still in limbo. Designing is definitely at the forefront of my mind, so perhaps being a successful graphics designer? [But in the meantime I'll be keeping an eye on neighbours up North, my siblings down South and certain acquaintances who keep stealing my tea.]
Why should you win this competition?
Who says I should? Getting to this point is fantastic as it is, because at this stage I'd just like to nurture and develop my skills as a designer and artist. Winning this competition would just be a fantastic opportunity and acknowledgment to a rewarding process.
