Concept statement
i wanted to encapsulate in this design the anticipation and excitement a sprinter feels as they begin a race. the blue guy is meant to be the ‘hero’ of the design, the sprinter you empathise with. the track stretches out into the distance; the blue twist at the end symbolises his goal (plus I thought it looked pretty cool). i made the entire thing in ms paint, only using photoshop to resize it, mainly because it was a program i’m comfortable with and i believe it needn’t necessarily limit the design. let me tell you, i’m now very well acquainted with the curvy line tool haha
Where in the world would you go to and why?
i'd definitely go to germany. i’ve been learning the language for nearly 5 years now, and i’m doing 3 unit german for the hsc. the rich culture and history of the place interest me, as well as the prospect of becoming fluent in another language. the food and drink are also a big drawcard, and the german people i’ve met have been, contrary to the popular stereotype, very friendly and welcoming. i’ve been planning to go and stay there next year
Favourite stuff?
Item: my dog (does that count haha) Pastime: athletics - it's my main hobby and passion, although i do middle and long distances, not sprinting Person: all my mates - we have some good times Food: while you can't go past a nice greasy slice of pizza, the late-night trip to maccas or a kebab shop is an absolute pearler Movie: Pulp Fiction, Fight Club, The Beach, Sin City Book: i enjoy short stories mostly (too many to mention individually) but roald dahl and jd salinger wrote some good ones
Three people you'd take to a desert island?
i'd take Evangeline Lily from Lost for obvious reasons....her survival skills of course! then i'd take Ian Huertson from huey's cooking adventures to cook all those desert island delicacies, and probably a mate to climb trees and eat mangoes with....or maybe a monkey to fetch said mangoes
What will you be doing in 10 years?
i honestly have no idea...but hopefully enjoying good times in good company
Why should you win this competition?
i believe my t-shirt is wearable and conveys a positive message about a sport in which asics has a proud reputation. in terms of the prize, i really have no idea what I want to do in my life after school, other than to travel. a year overseas to ‘find myself’ and work out what I want to do seems like the best idea at the moment, so that’s why i was so excited when i found this competition. though I will be going to germany next year regardless of whether it’s through this competition or not, winning would be fantastic, as it’d set my plan in motion, and make my trip there much easier and less burdensome financially. i believe i could make the most out of this prize, and I’d benefit greatly from the opportunity
